Mr. Merlo joined Mesen Associates, P.C. in January 1997 after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Since joining Mesen Associates, Mr. Merlo developed experience in various phases of a wide variety of projects and has served as a Project Engineer on several projects including:
Green Acres School - Rockville, Maryland - Two new elementary classroom buildings and a new library addition. These are constructed of masonry bearing walls, steel beams, and custom built truss joists.
Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church - Alexandria, Virginia - Renovation and expansion of existing education building with an addition of a new fellowship hall and classrooms.
Washington International School - N.W., Washington, D.C. - New 27,000 sq. ft. arts and athletic facility, constructed of reinforced concrete basement walls with masonry and steel framing above.
Board of Childcare Chapel - New freestanding Chapel constructed of exposed timber roof trusses and columns, masonry bearing walls, steel columns and joists.
Between semesters at Virginia Tech, Mr. Merlo interned with the Maryland State Highway Administration as a field construction inspector.
